Exploring the Northern Bund

Hi!!! I’m back to my normal posting schedule again! Guess what…. My Early Applications are DONE!!!! I can finally take a bit of a break from college stuff, which means I have more time. More time = More Fun and Food!!!

To celebrate, my dad and I decided to take the time to do a bit of exploring. I was feeling quite adventurous so we decided to go somewhere new. Hence: The Northern Bund. Let’s go!

The North Bund

When most people hear “the bund”, they’re probably thinking of the glamourous collection of art deco concrete buildings that house the likes of Cartier, Jean Georges and Communications Bank. The North Bund may be just up the river, but it couldn’t be more different.

No fancy buildings here: The North Bund was originally dominated by shipyards and linen factories.

The place is packed with history, and I must say, the government’s done a really good job in preserving it. They even kept the old rail lines in the sidewalk and installed little plaques on the ground with historical tidbits.

If that wasn’t enough history, check this out:

Each “post” came with a QR code for more info.

Of course, there were some modern touches along the way

…. and scenery

Food

After spending nearly 1.5 hour on a walking history lesson, I was pretty tired and hungry. The North Bund is a foodie’s dream. Particularly, Sun Studio- a TWO Michelin Starred studio specializing in Cantonese  cuisine. Did we go? Nope! My day, my choice

I REALLY wanted some roast suckling pig, and the only restaurant nearby that had some was the Hyatt buffet. That’s where we went. Lame? Definitely Worth it? Sort of. I definitely satisfied my pork craving and the sausage was AMAZING. Even the hairy crab, although small, was full of roe. However, all the food was pre- prepared and got a bit cold, including the pork, which I thought would be fresh roasted.  Variety was also quite limited. Anyways, I had a good time (and WAY too much pork). I probably wouldn’t go again though.

As for Sun Studio, I’ll definitely be going sometime in the near future.

Well, that’s all for this AMAZING day. I’ll definitely be hanging around the North Bund a lot more in the future. Now, there’s just 1.5 more months until Early Decision results come out!!!!! Wish me luck!

Until next time, Bye!
