CRR Week 7: Lamplighter Brewing Co.

Hi! We are… HALFWAY through the Cambridge restaurant rush! Time really does fly.

This post is a bit different. A couple of friends invited me to a local brewery two weeks ago. I don’t drink, but the place seemed cool. Turns out, it’s a great place and I HAD to write about it…. unfortunately…. I forgot to get pics. Here I am. 2 weeks later with a writeup!

Lamplighter Brewing Co.

Lamplighter brewing co is a Cambridge based brewery that specializes in putting creative spins on the traditional IPA. They opened in 2016 with a tap room on “Broadway” in what was formerly an auto repair shoppe. Since then, they’ve expanded to a second location in Cambridge Crossing.

Beyond beers, lamplighter is very involved with the community. They regularly collaborate with community organizations and non profits.

Drinks

Full disclosure: All recommendations were supplied by a very friendly employee, let’s call him Bob.

Beers

When I asked Bob which ones were his favourite, he said it was like asking him to pick his favourite child. But…. Three stood out

Pavona- Pavona is an Italian pilsner. He described it as light and crisp with floral notes and a hint of malt

Rabbit rabbit- For those who want something sweeter, this is the one to choose. Rabbit rabbit is candy like with hints of melon. My Econ friend also said this was his favourite. “Just refreshing”

Birds of a Feather- Birds of a Feather is more savoury. It tastes of citrus with hints of allium on the back of the palate. This might be sacrilege, but this sounds like a perfect beer to make batter out of.

Beyond beers, Lamplighter also offers Kombucha and fresh roasted coffee under the label Pepita Coffee. Try them out!

Service and Atmosphere

This is the first bar/brewery I’ve been to, and if all of them are like this, I’ll consider going for “drinks” with friends more often.

The owners kept a good portion of the original auto- repair shop interior intact and accentuated it with rustic wood decour and pastel murals. My favourite element is the openness. The layout of the tables invites conversation.
