Hi!! I hope everyone’s been able to relax these few weeks as the Holidays ramps up!. Exams are over (Finally!), so I can take at least the next week easy.
Today’s post is a different from the usual, but please bear with me. Let’s get started!
This morning Columbia’s Early Decision results came out. I got….. deferred- yep deferred. This is definitely not the result I’d been hoping for after the building anticipation, hard work and months of applications. Am I disappointed? Yes, after a bit of thinking and the wise words of my parents and teachers, I’ve come to realize the “defer” isn’t necessarily a bad outcome. Here’s why:
- Defer isn’t rejection. Columbia hasn’t given up on me. They want to see more of my passion- passion for Eastern Europe, passion for food, passion for Life. In a sense, they’re challenging me to push the boundaries on what I love, which is one of the main reasons I want to attend Columbia in the first place.
- Although an acceptance would have tied up my college process with a nice bow. Defer gives me more options. I have 9 other amazing schools I’m considering and I can now have the choose. Who knows what opportunities might turn up?
- A defer is disappointing to say the least, but in the future, I’ll probably have to face many real rejections from employers, publications, potential soul mates and more. To be honest, I haven’t faced many setbacks. This might just the perfect opportunity to titrate in the adversity I need .
I hope everyone enjoyed this post. Although I didn’t get in, my parents have still agreed to celebrate a hard semester and new opportunities ahead. Where’s the celebration? That’ll be next week’s post!
With that said, Have a happy holidays! Only 10 days until Christmas! Until tommorrow, Bye!
宝贝, 塞翁失马,焉知非福! so proud of how well you embracing disappointments! You are growing! More opportunities are ahead of you!

As a parent of child who is turned down by his ED school I feel for you. I was sad my child has given his best but not being appreciated. I am still proud of him for who he is, and I am sure your parents feel the same. Your reflection tells me you will bounce back. Better choices are yet to come! 加油!

I’m sorry to hear about your son’s rejection. I’m sure RD will open plenty of opportunities for him and he will end up at a school where he is happy in and that appreciates his unique personality and abilities.
Good luck!
